Opening the Computer Case

Locating the RAM Slots
Once you have access to the inside of the computer, you'll need to locate the RAM slots. These are usually found on the motherboard, near the CPU. They may be labeled as "RAM" or "DIMM" slots. Take note of the number of slots available and which ones are already occupied.
Removing Old RAM (If Necessary)
If you're upgrading your RAM, you'll need to remove the old RAM modules from the slots. To do this, release the clips or tabs that hold the RAM in place, then gently pull the RAM out of the slot at an angle. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts on the RAM or the slot.
Installing New RAM
To install the new RAM, align the notches on the RAM module with the tabs on the slot. Gently push the RAM into the slot at an angle, making sure it's securely seated. You should hear a clicking sound as the clips or tabs snap into place. Make sure the RAM is fully seated and the clips are secure.
Closing the Computer Case
Once the new RAM is installed, you can close the computer case. Replace any screws you removed and make sure the case is securely closed. Plug in the power cord and press the power button to turn on the computer.
Testing the RAM
After installing the new RAM, you should test it to make sure it's working properly. You can do this by checking the system properties or device manager to see if the new RAM is recognized. You can also run a memory-intensive program to see if the computer is performing as expected. If you encounter any issues, you may need to reseat the RAM or check the installation for any errors.
